PARTICIPATORY COMMUNITY EXPRESSIONS
Communities are a network of powerful agency and identity. Understanding, interacting, and preserving their ownership are the hallmarks of our work.
Through a collaborative effort, we have been able to reach out to community members to listen and learn their stories.
In return, we create movement interpretations based on the information and share it in the form of site-specific improvisations as well as structured formal concerts. This is important to us because urban communities have not always been portrayed positively by the media. Media, analytical data, or statistics don’t define individuals.
Using Milwaukee as our urban laboratory, we seek to transform these perceptions by providing individuals the opportunity to define themselves. Our creative perspective gives us a unique approach to this ethnographic study. We hope to make personal connections and express our gratitude as we share our movement informing and engaging with larger audiences.
